Summer wardrobe take 2

I do almost have my summer wardrobe complete.  I thought it was complete but then of course I found a pair of shoes I do think I will love.  They should be here early next week.  Once I have those I will be finished just in time for fall!  I have been having so much fun creating this fun wardrobe.  Also look at the mantel I love it!

Summer fashion take 1

I am still working on creating a summer capsule wardrobe.  I have added some fun pieces to my spring wardrobe.  Let's see what all I get by the end of the month and then maybe I can share my complete summer wardrobe.  I am changing my style up a bit.  I want to be light, bright and airy.  Here is a look at one of my outfits for the summer.  I love this light blue shirt and being barefoot is my way in the summer.

Menu for week of July 6, 2015

I had a wonderful 4th of July. My sister in law had a new baby girl so I cooked them dinner on the 4th. The chicken I made was very good I'm sure I will repeat that recipe soon. We have leftovers and we will eat them today and then hopefully be able to clean out the fridge.
I do hope you enjoy taking a look at the menu and if any recipes look like something you want to eat check out the amazing blogs and youtube videos.

Strawberry Vanilla Muffins

I am so excited that it is June and that means strawberry season!  For the longest time strawberries have been my favorite fruit.  It might not be my favorite fruit now, my tastes are changing.  I certainly do still enjoy them.  One day I do hope to grow my own but for now that is not the case.
Yesterday I made a wonderful jar of strawberry jam.  I made this for my family in Austin earlier this year.  They loved it and since that vacation I have wanted to make it again.  Yesterday I looked through past menus and found the recipe.  This Easy Refrigerator Strawberry Jam is really so easy.  I use 2/3 cup sugar, 3 teaspoons lemon juice and see absolutely no reason to add food coloring.  Cooks so quickly and you have wonderful jam for 2 weeks.

I made the jam because I found this recipe for strawberry vanilla muffins.  I love this blog.  When I started making the muffins I made many changes to the recipe and thought I should share those changes with all of you.  The muffins I made this morning turned out wonderful.  The strawberry flavor is not strong but the combination of strawberry and vanilla is wonderful.  These are a bit more sweet than most muffins I make but what a fun treat for a strawberry filled weekend.

Strawberry Vanilla Muffins
makes 11

4 ounces fresh strawberries , hulled and cut in quarters
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon sea salt
1 large egg
1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
1/2 cup milk
1/4 melted butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
about 1 tablespoon course sugar, for sprinkling

Heat oven to 375 and line muffin tin with liners.
Puree strawberries and granulated sugar in food processor or if you don't have a food processor mash with a potato masher.  Measure 1/4 cup of puree for the muffins.
In a medium sized bowl whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt.  In another bowl whisk together egg and brown sugar until sugar looks dissolved, add in milk, butter, vanilla and the strawberry puree.  Gently mix wet ingredients into dry. Dollop the strawberry jam and swirl.  You don't want to completely blend in the jam.  Put about 1/4 cup batter in each muffin cup.  Sprinkle a little course sugar on each muffin.
Bake for 15 to 17 minutes.  Mine needed 16 minutes.  Let cool slightly and enjoy.

Meal Plan

Time is flying past and life is changing.  I love spring food.  We have access to wonderful food and even the garden is starting to provide us so food.  Lettuce and kale are the main things now.  Swiss chard will soon be ready as well.  The herbs, peppers and tomatoes are looking good.  This is a great time for Rose wine, which is quickly becoming a favorite of mine.
This weeks menu has a few Italian recipes.  For a moment while creating the menu I thought we might have a whole week of Italian.  That didn't happen once I came across a few salad recipes.  I can't wait to try some of the lettuce we have grown!  I love that local music will be playing nearly every day during the week.  This week we will go on Wednesday.  Local food and local music is a wonderful combination.
Take a look and see if any recipes are something you might be interested in.

My complete Spring Wardrobe

I am so excited!  I have it all together, well maybe.  There is one more piece I might add but I still haven't found the perfect version of it for me.  My complete wardrobe has 36 pieces!  I was planning to have 37 so I am quite excited to come in at just one short.  Really I can't believe how nice it is to have 36 great pieces of clothes.  I get so many complements these days.  My clothes coordinate so well.  It took quite a bit of planning and I love the way this has turned out.  Let's hope I still feel this way by the end of spring.
I have many good ideas for ways to pull together some nice looks.  Not all of my ideas work as well as I thought they would but most all of them do.

Top row: jean shorts, khaki shorts, gray shorts and 3 pairs of blue jeans.
2nd row: navy dress pants, black dress pants, orange print skirt, gray and black skirt, fun dressy coat, and blue jean coat.

Local Music and Spring Wardrobe Take 5

I do try my best to support many local things, and over the past few years I began to support local music.  We have a few small but very nice local venues nearby and it has been so enjoyable to frequent these spots.  This weekend, I went The Warehouse to see 4 of my favorite local ladies perform.  The Whipstitch Sallies play modern bluegrass music.  They are all very talented; all play instruments, all sing, and all write songs.  I have watched them played many times over the past 2 years, and it has been fun to see their popularity increase over that time.  Many of their shows recently are packed , and the show this weekend was sold out.  It is great seeing many more people in the community begin to support local music.
I wore a nice outfit to the show.  I have a fun geometric print skirt and a striped shirt.  Mixing patterns in something I usually don't do but I love this combo!

Let's have fun in 2015!
